Church Softball League

647 320x240 wurtemburg united methodist church softball team Church Softball League     For a number of years the churches in Ellwood City had a softball league. A number of churches were involved over the years but so far the only picture we have received is the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church’s softball team. We are not sure of the year but we do know a couple of the players. Some of the folks in this team photo include:  Danny Boots, Tom Boots, Diana (Boots) Franus, Mike Esposito, Tom Butler… We are pretty sure someone can name them all!
We would love to hear any memories you might have of the church league and would appreciate any pictures anyone has. Please leave any comments you might have below or you can email us at info@ellwoodcitymemories.com

  1. A friend from our class of 68 discovered this site. thanks for doing this. I will see what I can uncover from archives.
I do have memories of some seriously competitive church softball games. My dad, Cy Smith, was the minister at Slippery Rock Presbyterian and he would announce the score from the pulpit on Sundays. this was in the early 60s.

  2. Here is the line up
Back row: Tom Butler, Chuck Kreigish (father in law of Jim), Jim Duncan, Danny Boots (Number 3/Reversed), Tom Boots (number 10 reversed), and Mike Esposito.
Front row: Kneeling Rick French, … Harris (son of Al Harris – not sure of first name – he was a manager for the team), Burt Lauten (number 8), DeWayne Weingartner, Al Harris, Diana (Boots) Franus, Bryan Moyer (13 or 18?) Dan Franus (00), and Randy French (18 or 13).
Thanks to Andrea Daufen, Danny Boots, Bryan Moyer and Diana Franus for supplying the names. Their guess is that this could have been 1977 or 1978, but it could have actually been early 70s, too.
