The year 1892, the newly formed Ellwood City is already known as a “resort town”. The year saw the following…
-Ellwood City became a borough
-Word started spreading that Ellwood Enamel Works would start operations in the near future. Enamel eventually did open it’s doors in April but closed in September due to a disagreement between owners and never went into production.
- News reported – JS McLure building storeroom in Ellwood City
- George B. Nye built an office in Ellwood City begun practicing law
- Pittsburg Company moved into their rooms in the Bank Building on the corner of Lawrence Ave & 9th St
- Ellwood City Tube Works went into operations
- Baseball Club under the management of George B Nye – formed May 1892
- Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church begun in Ellwood City
- Northwood Glass Co advertised for someone to erect 125 houses in town for it’s employees. The Glass Co would be moving from Martins Ferry, OH to Ellwood City – construct an 80 foot furnace in Ellwood City
-Phoenix Planning Mill opened
- New Electric railway was running
- Derwent Foundary began production
- Ellwood City Quaries operated by James J Meneice also got up and running
- Derwent Foundry Co began production
- Presbyterian Congregation began it’s plans to build a new Church on the corner of Spring Ave & 3rd Street
- Ellwood Steel Company also began production
- Fulmer Brick Works located in the East End of Ellwood City was working on an order for 40,000 bricks to be used on the streets of Ellwood City.
- Hartman fence works moved from Beaver Falls to Ellwood City
- Hotel Oliver opened and officially “opened” Ellwood City
- First National Bank of Ellwood City opened November 1st in the Bank Building of the Pittsburgh Company.
