Camp Ellwood
We have come across a number of pictures from Camp Ellwood in Ellwood City, PA. Problem is, we are not exactly sure where Camp Ellwood was exactly. Some believe it was where the current Camp Alleghany is today and some others believe that Camp Ellwood was on the same grounds as the current Camp Kon-O-Kwee.

I have been researching this & found an oral interview in the library at Pitt that was done in 1993. The interview-ee is Mr. Joseph Breskin who was the director of Camp Ellwood from 1936-1943. In the interview he talks about selling the camp to the Salvation Army.
My father attended Camp Ellwood in the summers of 1934, 35, 36, and 37. He has many fond memories of his days at the camp. He tells us that Camp Kon-O-Kwee already existed at that time and was up the Slippery Rock Creek from Camp Ellwood. The property was owned by I.A.Simon, who acquired it in the winter of 1933 from a man named Dick Victor of Edinboro. Mr. Simon hired my grandfather to rebuild and make improvements to the camp which was attended by approximately 150 boys each summer. Most were from the Pittsburgh area.
